If you are a regular reader of my blog, you will know my obsession with the lipstick Brave from MAC. This is my go-to lip shade of all time and has been for around 6 years or so. I have re-bought it an endless amount of times and always make sure I have two…just in case! I have been asked by so many people what I wear on my lips everyday and it is of course, the one and only Brave.
There has been so many times I have gone to a MAC counter looking for a new shade and have been told I should try the shade Brave as it would really suit me, my answer is always pretty much the same ‘yes that’s what I’m wearing now.’
I love the satin finish, the texture which is creamy yet not too glossy and the colour which is a pinky nude, more than perfect for everyday. I wear this to work, meetings, in the day, on a night out, you name it. It goes with so many make-up looks and an all year rounder. As it’s a MAC lipstick it’s not cheap at £15.50 but for me it’s worth the price tag, I do however always feel the need to have a back up just in case they discontinue it (MAC please don’t do this to me!) It has been known to happen and when it does, it feels like the end of an era you didn’t even get to say goodbye to.
Luckily I have found two lush dupes for Brave and both of them are drugstore brands Bourjois and Rimmel. I have raved about the Rimmel Lasting Finish Kate Moss lipsticks before and have mentioned the shade 08 before.
The 08 shade from the Kate Moss for Rimmel Lasting Finish lipsticks collection has more of a pinkish undertone with a teeny tiny bit more of a glossy finish making a more creamy texture. I love wearing this on top of brave and keep it in my handbag for top ups. I just love the smell of this lipstick too! It does last long, probably the same as MAC but as they are not matte lipsticks they don’t last for hours on end. In comparison, this lipstick is just £5.49.
My most recent discovery is Rose Tweed from the Rouge Edition Bourjois range, my new beauty crush this summer was and still is the Rouge Velvet edition lipsticks but just last week I thought I would give the non velvet edition a try. I came across the shade Rose Tweed and got my Brave straight out of my handbag to compare. It was identical! The texture and finish of this lipstick is very similar to the Rimmel, maybe slightly more creamy but the creamy gloss finish makes my lips look fuller. This lipstick is £7.99 so still just about half the price of MAC if you are looking for a cheaper alternative.
So there are my new dupes for my Brave, discovering cheaper alternatives for high-end products is one of the best parts of being a beauty blogger. You can see my full MAC Lipstick collection video here ♥
